Director's Statement

Reflecting the seemingly absurd, yet horrifyingly real historical context of Daniil Kharms's play "Elizaveta Bam" (1927), this short film tries to examine the ruthless technology of punishment typical for the repressive totalitarian regimes of the early twentieth century.


At the same time "Magicians" explores the relative nature of concepts such as guilt and innocence, reality and imagination. Depicting the unpredictable whims of fate and the deep shadow cast by ominous forces, this bizarre story might make one wonder:
